Today's Small Change: Exercise your options.

Rethink the Routine

What kind of activity do you regularly?  Whether you walk, jog, swim, or use the elliptical at the gym, I hope you've chosen an activity that's easy to fit into your schedule and challenging enough to keep you on your toes.

But doing the same activity for weeks on end can get a little boring. Or maybe the weather has changed, making your outdoor activity of choice less appealing. Today I'd like you to inject some new life into your exercise routine by trying a new activity.

Taking a class is one way to accomplish this small change. But perhaps a group class isn't quite your thing, or an unpredictable schedule prevents you from attending a class regularly. In that case, consider taking a lesson in a new sport or activity, or working out with a personal trainer.

Lessons for adults are nothing new — a professional coach can give you tips to improve your golf swing or help you with your tennis serve. Working one-on-one with a pro can give you the skills and confidence you need to continue with a new sport.

In a similar way, a personal trainer can evaluate your fitness and your current workout program, modify it to address your fitness goals, and keep you motivated. Personal training and coaching sessions aren't just for the rich and famous — many gyms offer discounts for members, or you can sign up with a friend for a joint session to save money. Trainers will work around your schedule and may be well worth the investment.

So put the fun back into your exercise routine by trying a new activity today, scheduling a training session, or lining up a lesson!
