Walking to Help the Homeless
Eleven-year-old Zach Bonner is walking 668 miles to help raise money for homeless kids.
At 11, Zach Bonner is committed to walking several miles each day in order to raise money for homeless children.
In 2007, he completed the first segment of a 1,225-mile journey that will take him from his home near Tampa, Florida to the White House. He began the final third of his trek—from Atlanta to Washington D.C.—on May 11, 2009.
On his website, Zach explains that the plight of more than 1.3 million homeless kids in the U.S. provide the inspiration for his epic walk, which has already raised tens of thousands of dollars.
"I walk to help give a voice to the kids that do not have one. I walk because it is something I can do and because it works," he says.
The youngster's mission to assist displaced children began after he witnessed the aftermath of Hurricane Charley in Florida in 2004. After successfully using his wagon to collect water and food from neighbors, he established the Little Red Wagon Foundation in 2005.
Zach is collecting letters from children as he makes the 668-mile journey to the nation's capitol so he can deliver their messages to President Obama.
